This document describes the design of a Master Key Encryption Infrastructure for SONiC that enables at-rest encryption of sensitive configuration fields in ConfigDB (Redis). It defines the general infrastructure — master key management, an AES-GCM encryption library, a code-defined encryption registry, and a transparent ConfigDB interception layer — and then describes how BGP MD5 peer authentication passwords are the first application built on top of this infrastructure.
