Merged changes from main (at the 12.17.0 release tag) into wwdc26-preview.

To review, it'll likely be easiest to compare the PR's branch ah/wwdc26-preview-12.17 with the state of main at 12.17.0 (12.17.0...ah/wwdc26-preview-12.17). This shows the same commits as main...wwdc26-preview, with the addition of 396cb80 (merge from main at 12.17.0) and fb94458 (correcting a mistake I made during the merge).
