Performance

When the project started, we faced different performance issues, in different parts of the application. This issue was used as placeholder for performance up to the release 0.3.0 in March/2021. The issue contains links to external resources and also to other pull requests and issues, and may be useful for context of changes or FIXME/TODO/NOTE markers.
