Google analyrics

I had been looking into XR devices and found these drivers which sound awesome, but on HN today some people pointed out reservations about this repo: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43672375

Specifically:

• It uses google analytics
• The google analytics aren't mentioned in the privacy notice

The analytics calls aren't sending personal data, it's completely anonymous. Here is the log_metric call.

I'm guessing they're referring to the fact that GA learns your IP and is able to associate that with what software you use. IPs are PII.

It's not 100% clear if IP logging applies to the /collect URL I'm using (and if it does, only Google uses it, it's not something available to me), but I've added the &aip=1 parameter to the request so that it'll anonymize the IP address.

I think that was for breezy desktop, I'm not sure which link though either - I couldn't find any.

I've recently added a config flag to disable metrics collection. Gonna close out this topic.
