Android 17 audio muting

Hardware

• CPU: Google Tensor G2
• RAM: 8GB LPDDR5
• GPU: Mali-G710 MP7
• SDR: Airspy, SpyServer, RTL-TCP

Software

• Operating System: Android 17
• SDR++: Latest Stable (May 7th GitHub Release, 1.2.1)

Bug Description
Audio on Android 17 is muted 5 seconds after the screen is turned off.

Steps To Reproduce

1. Run SDR++, connect to device, and play audio.
2. Turn screen off, or wait for screen to shut off on its own
3. Audio is muted after 5 seconds of the screen being off.

Android 17 has implemented something they are calling "Background audio hardening". More information on these changes can be found at:

AFAIK the SDR++ is not aware of sleep / wake up. The audio off after couple of seconds is a side effect of the system fighting the badly written application. In my fork https://github.com/bubnikv/SDRPlusPlus-iak I have implemented sleep / wake-up handlers and also keep-alive. When going to sleep, the audio is stopped. BTW expecting that the app will play audio when sleeping (in the background) is not realistic with the current app architecture, it would require a major refactor. The keep-alive functionality in my fork is a kind of workaround for the current SDR++ architecture.

That's unfortunate. Before my phone updated to 17, I could play audio in the background smoothly as long as I kept the sample rate low (higher sample rates resulted in choppy audio).

Also, thanks for letting me know about your fork. I was not aware of it until reading your reply. I downloaded it and your keep-alive function is a nice workaround. Well done... It would be really nice to see this implemented in Brown.

Side note: If you were somehow able to take the Noise Reduction logmmse module that's included in the Brown fork and incorporate it into the your fork, iak would likely become my SDR++ 'daily driver'. In the meantime, it looks like I will now have three different versions of SDR++ on my phone now. Thanks again.
