Supported USB mass storage devices?

Hello,
This concerns the circle lib used in BMC64, which according to my information is 7 years old.
I have tried several USB sticks. Most of them are sticks with 8GB and FAT32.
My experience is that about half of them are recognized and the rest is not recognized in BMC64.
I have not found any specific reason for this.
I would appreciate learning what to look for when purchasing a USB stick for his purpose.

There have been important fixes for the USB mass-storage support in 2021: #211 It's possible, that some USB flash drives do not work with Circle, but most should work with this fix. Unfortunately I cannot test all USB flash drives, which are out there.

Thank you for your answer.
As you might know, the further developpment of BMC64 has halted for various reasons.
Still BMC64 is in my opinion a very solution. But BMC64 users have to live with the fact that any library improvements etc. will not change the product.
This is okay for me and I also believe that your circle lib is very to the point.
My question in other words is: When looking for suitable usb flash drive are there any criteria to look for? Or is the best known strategy just trial and error?

PS: Meanwhile, I did some more "trial and errors" with all the lind of stick that are laying aroud here. My preliminary conclusion that it has to do with the power consumption of the stick. No matter how the stick is formatted, if the power consumption is too low, the stick does not get recognized. What do you think about this?

If power delivery is the problem, the following option could help. It has to be added to the first line of the file cmdline.txt on the SD card, delimited with a space from other options:

usbpowerdelay=1500

With this the USB host controller driver will wait 1500 ms after powering on an USB device, before accessing it. By default it waits only 510 ms. This may be too short for some devices.

I have not done it yet.
But it might be a "Catch 22" situation.
Because the option "usbpowerdelay" does not seem to be available in BMC64.
And in the source code the word "usbpowerdelay" cannot be found:

Just read in the files:
In "cmdline.txt" of my BMC64 instance it says:
"...

DO NOT EDIT - This file is no longer edited by hand. Use the

machines.txt to set both config.txt and cmdline.txt params for

each machine. Refer to README.md for options.

..."

and in "machines.txt" it says:
"...

cmdline.txt options available (See README.md)

----------------------------------------------------

machine_timing

cycles_per_second

audio_out

scaling_params

scaling_params2 (for 2nd display or 80 column display)

..."

In other words, where exactly would you place "usbpowerdelay=1500"?

As I wrote: Put this option into the first line of cmdline.txt on the SD card. If BMC64 does not support this, do it manually. This is all, you can do. This option is checked by Circle itself, when the USB host controller driver is started. This should not require BMC64 support.
