I am having this same issue as well. I'm setting up a new computer at work with a newer version of R and now the same exact code I was using before gives me this error. I even tried rolling back to an older version of ODBC that worked on the previous computer, but I get the same issue.

I'm not a big user of github so I don't know exactly how to report these things, but I did install the version of odbc from the pull request #995 and it fixed my issue!

You are describing to another conscience how to reproduce your experience of reality.

-> What is it that you are observing. Expected behaviour vs observed behaviour.
-> Since we are dealing with code and machines, it's possible to reproduce the context of the observations.
-> So a piece of of self-containing code to generate the issue and a description of the execution context (In R world, a reprex).

There is multiple guide and the share the same shape.
Some repos have an issue template to further define the shape of the issue.

It has multiple positive like giving you agency over the evolution of packages, even further if you are willing to contribute or even create your own packages.
