cli profile switching

I have made multiple attempts at profile switching from the command line, as I need to incorporate this into a shell script. The standard --process-message method of profile switching does not appear to work. Is there a way that this can be done?
For clarity, this is being attempted on a linux machine.

The --process-message CLI is the only way to switch profiles externally; please send the exact command lines you've tried to use.

I'm going to close this. I upgraded to 2.12, and the per application profile selection showed up. While the cli process-message still doesn't work, I no longer require it, as the per application selection fills my needs.
