Docker instructions for Debian #831

Description

@JonMurphy

Jason @jasonacox,

Yesterday I installed Docker (with Powerwall-Dashboard) on a new device running Debian Trixie. Since the Ubuntu or Raspberry Pi commands would not work, I (with AI help) created a new Debian command list.

Can Sam check this and add to the Docker instructions?

Debian

The install block below was created on Trixie (v13) and may not work on earlier Debian versions.

# install dependencies
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt install ca-certificates curl

# Add Docker's official GPG key (Debian repo, not Ubuntu)
sudo install -m 0755 -d /etc/apt/keyrings
sudo curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/debian/gpg -o /etc/apt/keyrings/docker.asc
sudo chmod -v a+r /etc/apt/keyrings/docker.asc

# Add the repository to Apt sources (Debian repo, not Ubuntu)
echo \
  "deb [arch=$(dpkg --print-architecture) signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/docker.asc] https://download.docker.com/linux/debian \
  $(. /etc/os-release && echo "$VERSION_CODENAME") stable" | \
  sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/docker.list > /dev/null
sudo apt update

# Install Docker
sudo apt install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io docker-buildx-plugin docker-compose-plugin -y

# add local user to docker group so you can run docker commands
sudo usermod -aG docker $USER
newgrp docker

# verify it is running
sudo systemctl status docker
docker ps

# make sure it starts on reboot
sudo systemctl enable docker

# `newgrp` leaves you in the temporary 'docker' group shell
# `exit` gets back to your normal primary group
#    This avoids setup.sh detecting a mismatched uid:gid (e.g. 1000:989 instead of 1000:1000)
exit

# Powerwall Dashboard Setup
git clone https://github.com/jasonacox/Powerwall-Dashboard.git
cd Powerwall-Dashboard/
./setup.sh
