i just stumbled upon https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Bean

5 of 7 files in there were uploaded using your app, with latest version being 5.0.2~05ffd123e .

they should be in https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Beans , but somehow app users still picked Bean.
your app should probably handle this better. i dont use your app so i dont know what it looks like.

Thanks for reporting this!

This problem has 3 aspects:

1. Selecting "bean" depiction does not lead to Category:Beans being suggested in the next screen

2. Fuzzy search has been a long-standing difficulty (Fuzzy search for categories #3939 as you mentioned).

3. Category search should never suggest invalid categories

I suggest focusing on on this third topic in this ticket.

Question to everyone: Using the Mediawiki API, how to distinguish valid and invalid categories? Ideally in the search call, rather than having to make a followup call for each result.

We should change our API call to retrieve only categories that are "valid".

I wonder if this deleted category issue is a bug that was supposed to be fixed upstream before. https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T28411
