Premium feature idea: Named channels

It would be awesome if we could have named channels as a premium feature. That way people can just bookmark the meeting site instead of having to share a new link each time.

E.g. https://talk.brave.com/my-channel-name

i believe we originally chose not to do this because (1) many would be unintentionally guessable and cause meetings to be joinable by uninvited participants and (2) risk of people using this for phishing, ex talk.brave.com/official-brave-support

You could add a random prefix or suffix to address this if that's a concern, e.g.:

https://talk.brave.com/lskdjsd23/my-channel-name

The prefix/suffix addresses concern (1) - for (2) you could pass the title through a small LLM before approving.

i thought the point of this was to make the channel name memorable; if it just needs to be bookmarkable, i think that's already the case with the existing URLs (you can use the same meeting link any number of times)

Well... yeah personally I'd like it to be memorable, however, at least recognizable would be a good goal to aim for, so that when the person visits the room they know they're in the right place.

I.e. you could also add the ability to name the room and add a logo to it. That way people know they're in the right location for the call.

You could also require that memorable rooms required some additional code, that could be input via a prompt or via the URL:

https://talk.brave.com/my-channel-name?code=password

This reduces the likelihood that uninvited guests would join, as it's two things to guess, while keeping the URL recognizable and potentially memorable too.

If people start getting uninvited guests, they can change the code.

FWIW, Whereby.com uses memorable URLs and I've never had an issue with that. And if I did, I'd rely on some passcode feature. Whereby does seem to have this an an ability to "Lock" the room:
