        <h1>About the project</h1>

<p>Alarm over global climate change and the associated loss of biodiversity has resulted in international demand for quick, reliable access to high quality data with a focus on species information through space and time.</p>

<p>The VertNet project is focused on making it easy and fast to access these large scale data via the web, starting with 100 million records from over 100 participating institutions. VertNet will provide free and open access to these data with the hope that it will bolster biodiversity research and conservation.</p>
