Fleet API on core Home Assistant has the Precondition option to toggle this on. I used this to schedule pre-heating the car in the morning before getting in so that regenenerative braking works and the car is comfortable. Anyway to enable this or get this to work?

I use Teslemetry action call to turn on HVAC, and note that battery heating starts also. I verified the battery heating condition is shown in Tesla app.

So how can I trigger the preheat, if that possible? My trigger may need to change.

I am slightly confused about what issue your reporting here. Defrost mode (aka pre-condition max) is avaliable on all integrations:

If you simply want to pre-condition, you just need to turn climate on.

I use an add-on simple scheduler to turn on/off devices on a schedule. I previously used a device named precondition. As best I can tell that doesn’t exist any longer. I am simply turning it on/off at desired times. It seems like this changed. Should I now use climate? It sounds like it will do same thing possibly.

I believe it was renamed "defrost" because that's what it actually did. Running your vehicle AC conditions both the cabin and battery. Defrost (aka max precondition) just does the same thing at maximum heat.

So the defrost turns on fine. I can’t however turn it off from Home Assistant manually or with an automation. I get this error:

ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.automation.tesla] Error while executing automation automation.tesla: Command returned exception: The response from the server was not JSON.

I just installed 4.1.7 and this may be working as intended now, with no changes on my end. I assume this functionality was finally added.
