Adding a color cyle or "rainbow" setting to custom LED themes for buttons lighting

Problem:

I had initially thought the "set to gradient" setting would set the button LED's to cycle between two set colors. But instead, it just sets a gradient of static colors across the entire layout. I was hoping it would be the former, especially when pressing a button. AFAIK, this feature doesn't exist in the current firmware.

Solution:

Create a custom color cycle setting, so that you can set individual buttons to cycle between two or more colors of your choice. In addition, create a "rainbow" color cycle setting with variable speeds, on a per button basis. This would be both for unpressed & pressed LED functionality. There's already stock settings where this effect is done with all buttons at once, so I would imagine something like this could be feasible per button?

Do you plan to work on this feature yourself?

No. Unfortunately, I just started my electrical engineering education journey, and wouldn't exactly know where to start.

Likely not something that we are going to add in but you are always welcome to fork the project and try to work on it.

Short answer: It would be cool.

Long answer: We already have the ability to have custom lighting settings for buttons, and that feature arguably has no practical use case (and there are controllers that have no per-button lighting at all), unless you're looking at the buttons as you use them. I think further expanding on this feature in the way I described simply adds to the cool factor for the controllers that are able to take advantage of it.
