Installing the ClimateMARGO on Julia

Hi,

I'm encountering issues with installing ClimateMARGO. When I execute add ClimateMARGO, the REPL throws the following error:

I’ve attempted to manually add the missing dependencies, but the installation still fails due to unresolved compatibility issues. Could you please assist me in resolving this?

Hi @HaimingLuo98, thank you for the issue, which seems related to #87.

My first recommendation is to downgrade your the version of Julia you are using, or else some of your packages, assuming this is an option for you.

The repository includes this example Manifest that I used for the analysis in the ClimateMARGO paper. https://github.com/ClimateMARGO/ClimateMARGO.jl/blob/main/example_Manifest.toml

I have worked with the ClimateMARGO package up to Julia v1.9, but have not have the time to maintain support for more recent versions.

As someone completely new to Julia and its package manager, I’ve tried searching online for solutions but haven’t been able to find the right resources. Apologies if my questions seem basic, but may I ask if there’s a tutorial or guide for installing ClimateMARGO?

Could you try to run precompile in the package manager as it suggests? Sometimes it does not automatically precompile the first time but it works the second time. I'm not sure why.

The easiest work around is probably to downgrade to Julia v1.8, fork and clone this repository, rename the file example_Manifest.toml to just Manifest.toml, and precompile the package. The example_Manifest.toml file shows the exact versions of every package I used to run ClimateMARGO.jl, so if you use that to create your environment it should be guaranteed to work.

I have installation instructions in the documentation here https://climatemargo.github.io/ClimateMARGO.jl/dev/installation_instructions/, but they are not up to date as the package has not been actively developed since the paper was published 3-4 years ago.

Another problem that I encountered when trying to run the code to use ClimateMARGO in jupyter was:

I've tried 'import Pkg; Pkg.precompile()', the problem emerged again. I've also tried to downgrade the version of Python as well as reinstall the matplotlib. It's still not working.

Are you launching jupyter from Python or Julia? I've found that using a jupyter notebook launched via Python can cause the Julia environment to point to the wrong Python environment. I recommend launching Jupyter from the julia REPL instead.
